NANS gives PolyUnwana management 24hrs ultimatum to remedy strike

The national association of Nigerian students(NANS) has given the management of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana(PolyUnwana), Ebonyi state, 24 hours  ultimatum to remedy the strike embarked upon by the academic staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP).
NANS President, Chinonso Obasi, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the strike by PolyUnwana chapter of ASUP, had lingered for a month.
Obasi said that if the strike, which was started while students were about to commence semester exam, was not called off in 24 hours, the college might witness mass action via students. “it's far quite embarrassing to be away even when students are about to start semester exam, ASUP did not give any iota of attention to the student’s plight before embarking on the strike. “However, in my phone communication with the ASUP Chairman, PolyUnwana branch, Mr Nwuro Carl, he stated that the strike in no way got his approval as it turned into politically motivated to smear the management of the rector. “On the expiration of the 24hrs ultimatum, failure to call off the strike and begin academic activities/semester examinations, the national Secretariat of NANS can be relocated to the school  for further actions as college students shall now not continue to be at the receiving end,’’ he stated. The NANS president, though, urged the Rector of the school , Venerable Ibe Enwo, to install talk as method of fostering commercial concord within the school. Obasi said it was regrettable that PolyUnwana remained one of the few institutions in Nigeria wherein 80 percent of the students lived outside the school premises due to unavailability of hostel space. He said that the students’ cafeteria changed into nothing to write home about. Obasi added that it become worrisome that with a huge expanse of land, infrastructural development turned into nonetheless very low within the organization.
