Keyboard player remanded for allegedly defiling 10-year-vintage church member

An Ikeja Magistrates’ court docket on Wednesday remanded a church keyboard player, Essien Bassey, 25, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old female, who attends his church. The Justice of the Peace, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, who refused to grant the accused bail, ordered that the case report ought to be despatched to the office of the nation Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for recommendation.
She said the accused have to stay in prison pending advice from the DPP. The accused, who is living at Ojodu area of Lagos, is facing a rate of defilement. earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, had informed the court docket that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 25, 2017 at his house. He stated the accused invited the girl to his house under the pretext of teaching her a way to play the keyboard and had sex with the girl. “when she got home, her mom observed she was not walking nicely and asked her what had happened to her. “She then informed her mom what had transpired between her and the accused,’’ he stated. Ayorinde said the woman was taken to the health facility and the clinical report found out that there was penetration into the woman’s private parts and she also sustained a few injuries. “The case was mentioned to the police and the accused was arrested for questioning,’’ he said. The offence contravened section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015 (Revised). section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders. The case was adjourned till may also 31.
