“Our common target in Ebonyi is to have as a minimum a million registered citizens for the 2019 general elections. “we are able to do that honestly by adding up to the 2015 registered population. we've got to date registered 132,170 voters in 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018. “And what this translates to is that we've got a deficit of 793,557 electorate to register to gain our two million target. “What is wanted is for all fingers to be on the deck as we intensify our efforts to mobilise eligible citizens not yet registered to go out and register. “there is zero tolerance to double and underage registration, and registration can most effective take place in specific registration centres by INEC officers,” Obioma said. The REC stated that he had enjoyed the help of media practitioners considering the fact that he assumed office nine months ago, and called for its sustenance. He cited that the media have a vital function to play in improving the electoral method and in ensuring credible, free and fair elections via objective reportage. “The position of the media in improving the electoral system and processes cannot be overemphasized, subsequently your collaboration and cooperation are very germane in our drive to conduct free, credible elections in Ebonyi in 2019.” Obioma said that as a way to mobilise greater participation and ginger extra voter education awareness, mainly for the ongoing non-stop Voter Registration (CVR), the commission initiated community-based town hall meetings. He stated that voter education before his assumption of obligation in Ebonyi was driven particularly via radio jingles and little attempts have been made to carry the message to the doorsteps of the target audience. He added that members to the town hall meetings were drawn from diverse electoral stakeholders, along with politicians, rural males and females, youths, students, traditional rulers, civil society agencies, physically challenged, among others. “most of you from your numerous media structures participated and played very considerable rules at these town halls meetings, which afforded the locals opportunity to interact with and are seeking clarifications from INEC on the CVR and elections commonly. “The town meetings offered direct access for the people to talk to the INEC officials about their observations, reports, challenges and hints on what wishes to be carried out to attain better environment for electoral process in the state”. He explained that more Direct data capturing machine (DDCM), have been brought to create more access to the people to take part within the CVR as approved via the national headquarters. “so one can enhance voter registration and make the technique more available, three DDCMs were authorized for every local government area. He said that one DDCM machine was stationed at local government electoral office, at the same time as others are rotated throughout the registration areas or wards inside the council. “it is envisaged that every DDCM will spend three to four days in a registration vicinity or ward in a given cycle and there can be  cycles in a quarter, ” the REC said.
