Federal University of Technology Owerri loses N60m to vandals
The management of Federal university of technology, Owerri, FUTO, says it “lost N60 million to the vandals that destroyed the whole stretch of the finished perimeter fence, measuring about 1.5 kilometres, in the Umuanunu-Obinze axis”.
The Vice Chancellor, VC, of FUTO, Professor Francis C. Eze, made the lamentation Tuesday, in the course of a pre-convocation press briefing within the Senate Chamber of the university. “in the early hours of Tuesday, March 13, 2018, a few disgruntled and misinformed youth from Umuanunu, Obinze,destroyed the whole stretch of the completed fence. The incident has been pronounced to the appropriate authorities”, the VC said. while saying that management remained “very determined to make sure the finishing touch of the mission as money become available”, the VC however disclosed that “FUTO intends to maintain to engage the representatives of the host communities in robust, optimistic and significant dialogue towards the non violent decision of all contentious land problems.” consistent with the VC, a complete of 2,325 college students would be awarded first levels, even as 438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas can be conferred on deserving candidates. continuing, Professor Eze said that 4 personalities, together with the Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambowal, the managing Director, Niger Delta development commission, Nsima Udo Ekere, Chairman, Orange drugs, Sir Tony Ezenna and wellknown manager (Exploration), Esso Exploration production limited, Andrew Ogaga Ejayeriese, might be conferred with honourary Doctorate degrees. Addressing the achievement memories of FUTO, the VC said: “The institution came first in the Open education resources rating of Nigerian Universities, organized via the national Universities commission, NUC. further, the end result of the 2017 NUC accreditation of our programmes showed that of all of the 45 programmes, only two have interim accreditation repute, whilst others have full accreditation fame.” Answering a query, the VC said that they're currently growing a new faculty of Computing information and communication technology that could house programmes like information technology, software Engineering, computer science, Telecommunications science and Electronics. “we've concluded arrangement for the advent of department of Forensic science and Cyber security”, the VC stated.
